Anxiety therapy in Tunbridge Wells

Help with worry, panic, health anxiety and social anxiety that has started to run your days.

Anxiety is one of the most common reasons people see a psychologist, and one of the most treatable. It often starts as something useful, a way of staying alert to risk, and slowly takes up more room until it shapes what you will and won't do.

In our first sessions we'll build a clear picture of how anxiety works for you: what sets it off, what keeps it going, and what it has cost you. From there we agree a plan together. NICE guidance recommends structured psychological therapies such as cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) for generalised anxiety, panic disorder and social anxiety, and therapy is matched to the type of anxiety you're experiencing. Where it fits, we may also draw on acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), which helps you stop anxiety from deciding what you do.

Sessions are practical. You'll leave with an understanding of what is happening in your body and mind, and with things to try between sessions, at a pace that feels manageable.

Frequently asked questions

How many sessions will I need for anxiety?

It varies. Many people attend somewhere between 6 and 20 sessions, and we review progress together regularly so you're never in therapy longer than is useful.

Do I need a diagnosis to come for therapy?

No. You don't need a diagnosis or a GP referral to book. If you're claiming through health insurance, your insurer may ask for a GP referral.
